Axe & Stone

Hand-carved stone sculpture.

Axe and Stone explores early tools and the relationship between human intervention and raw material.

By integrating a metal axe within the carved stone the work brings tool and material into direct dialogue thus collapsing the boundary between object, action, and outcome.

The stone is carved by hand around the embedded axe emphasising weight, balance and tension between materials. Visible tool marks are retained, acknowledging process and labour while allowing the axe to function as both object and reference.

Carved by hand and conceived as a singular work, Axe and Stone is not part of a series.
